What are custom printed boxes?
A custom printed box is any box we make to your size with your own artwork on it. The style, board and print all follow what the product needs.
Our photos show the range. There are mailers with a pattern outside and a bold colour inside. There is a sleeve sliding over a printed tray, and a black lidded box with a window. Each one started as a blank and a design file.
It is the broadest product we offer. If you already know the style you want, our printed and retail box range lists each one on its own page.
Who orders custom printed boxes?
Brands of every size, from a maker selling at weekend markets to a company with a national retail listing. What they share is a need for the box to say who they are.
Many start with one printed style for their best seller, then add more as the range grows. Keeping the same colours and logo position across every box makes a small range look planned.
- Online shops that want unboxing to feel considered
- Cosmetics and skincare brands needing printed retail cartons
- Food and drink makers posting gift sets
- Stationery and craft brands selling boxed kits
- Event and wedding planners sending favours and invitations
- Companies sending welcome packs to new staff
Which printed box style should I choose?
Start with how the box will travel and how it should open. A box that goes through the post has different needs from one that sits on a shop shelf.
| Style | How it opens | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Mailer box | Hinged lid tucks in at the front | Posting orders and subscription kits |
| Tuck end carton | Flaps tuck in at each end | Retail shelves and cosmetics |
| Sleeve and tray | Tray slides out of a printed sleeve | Gifts, chocolates and accessories |
| Two-piece lid box | Lid lifts straight off the base | Premium gifts and keepsakes |
| Hinged lid box | Lid folds back from the base | Presentation sets and display |
| Window box | Any style with a die-cut window | Showing the product without opening |
How is the print done, and what does it cost?
Boxes can be left unprinted, or printed with one ink, two inks or the four CMYK process colours. One or two inks suit logos and simple patterns. CMYK handles photos, gradients and detailed illustration.
Inside print is a separate pass. It is often where the best moments happen, such as a hello message or a contrast colour when the lid opens. The green, pink and brown interiors in our photos show how much a single inside colour changes the feel.
Our lowest unit price is £0.25, and the figure moves with size, board, ink count and finishes. A written quote always comes first, so you know the cost before you commit.
Which finishes work on printed boxes?
Finishes change how the box feels and how it catches light. Use them to draw the eye to one or two features, not everywhere.
- Uncoated kraft: natural texture and a quiet, earthy look
- Matte lamination: soft feel, low glare, good with dark colours
- Gloss lamination: bright colours with a shine
- Spot UV: a glossy layer on a logo or pattern only
- Foil stamping: metallic logos and lettering
- Embossing: a raised logo you can feel with your fingers
Corrugated or folding board for a printed box?
Corrugated board is the choice for anything posted, because the fluted layer absorbs knocks. E flute, about 1.5 mm, gives fine print and neat folds. B flute at about 3 mm and C flute at about 4 mm add strength for heavier goods.
Folding board is thinner and smoother, and it suits retail cartons, sleeves and inserts. It comes in kraft or white, and white gives the brightest colours.
If you are not sure, tell us the product weight and how it travels. Our comparison of single and double wall board covers the heavier end.
How do I prepare artwork for a printed box?
Good artwork makes for a quick proof. Our designers will help at no charge, but these steps save time.
- Send your logo as a vector file, such as AI, EPS, SVG or a vector PDF.
- List your brand colours, with CMYK values if you have them.
- Tell us which panels carry what: lid, front, sides and inside.
- Keep important text at least 5 mm away from folds and edges.
- Check the digital proof carefully, including spelling and barcodes.
- Approve the proof in writing so production can begin.
How do I get the size right for a printed box?
Measure the product at its widest, longest and tallest points, including caps, handles or packaging it sits in. Add a small allowance so it goes in easily. For retail cartons a closer fit looks neater on the shelf, while posted boxes need a touch more room for wrapping.
Our sizes are always inside sizes, so the product fits whatever board you pick. The artwork is then laid out on the flat blank around those figures.
If you plan an insert, size the insert first and the box second. Our page on taking inside box measurements walks through each step.
What are the usual mistakes with printed boxes?
Low-resolution logos are the first. A logo copied from a website often looks soft when printed large on a lid.
Designs that run across folds come next. A word split over a corner is hard to read, so keep key text within one panel.
People also forget the inside. A plain inside can feel flat after a bold outside, and a single printed colour inside costs less than many expect.
Finally, too many finishes compete with each other. One special finish, used well, usually looks more polished than three.
A last trap is ordering before the product is final. If a bottle, jar or kit changes size after the proof, the box may no longer fit. Lock the product down first, then lock the box.
How long do custom printed boxes take?
Proofing time depends on how quickly artwork is settled, so allow for a round or two of changes. With approval in hand, printing, die-cutting and packing take 4–6 business days.
A tracked parcel then gets the order to you in 2–3 business days. Shipping is on us for every address in the UK.
Working to a launch or event date? Put it in your quote request. We can tell you straight away whether the timing works, so you can plan the rest of your launch around it.

Custom Printed Boxes: questions
12 answersCan I print on the inside of a custom box?
Yes. The inner lid and walls can take their own design, from a single ink to full CMYK.
What file format should my logo be?
A vector file is best, such as AI, EPS, SVG or a vector PDF. Our designers can help if you only have an image file.
Which box styles can be custom printed?
Mailers, tuck end cartons, sleeve and tray boxes, two-piece and hinged lid boxes, and window boxes can all be printed.
Is kraft or white board better for printing?
White board gives brighter colours and suits full colour designs. Kraft gives a natural look and suits one or two colour logos.
What is spot UV on a printed box?
It is a clear gloss coating applied only to chosen areas, such as a logo, so they shine against a matte background.
Can you add foil to my logo?
Yes. Foil stamping adds a metallic finish to logos and lettering.
Will I see the design before it is printed?
Yes. We send a free digital proof, and printing starts only after you approve it.
Can a printed box have a window?
Yes. A die-cut window can be added to suitable styles so the product shows through.
What is the lowest price for a printed box?
Printed boxes begin at £0.25 each. Your written quote sets the real figure once we know the size, board, inks and any finishes.
Do printed boxes arrive assembled?
Most styles are delivered flat and folded up by hand as needed, which saves space in storage.
What is the turnaround for printed boxes?
Once your proof is signed, we print and cut over 4–6 business days. Tracked transit is a further 2–3 business days.
Can your designers create artwork for me?
Our designers give free layout help, placing your logo, colours and text on the box. Send what you have and we will set it out on a proof.
