What is a cube cardboard box?
A cube box has six faces of the same size. That sounds simple, but it changes how a product sits, prints and stacks. A square footprint fills a pallet layer neatly and looks balanced on a shelf.
We make cubes in two ways. Corrugated cubes are slotted cartons with four flaps top and bottom, built for the post. Folding board cubes are lighter tuck end cartons, made for display and printed on every side. Both sit within our wider range of everyday cardboard boxes.
Because every side is the same, a cube needs only one number to order. That makes reorders simple and keeps a matched set of sizes easy to manage.
Who orders cube boxes?
Cube boxes suit products that are roughly as tall as they are wide. Think mugs, candles in glass, succulents in pots, and boxed toys sold as a surprise.
What links them is shape. When the product is close to square, a cube wraps it with the least wasted board and the least filler.
- Candle makers sending a single jar in a snug corrugated cube
- Toy brands selling blind box figures in printed folding board
- Plant sellers posting small potted plants upright
- Gift shops building matched sets of numbered cubes
- Coffee roasters packing a bag and a mug together
What size cube box do I need?
Measure the item at its widest point, then take the tallest point. The larger of the two numbers is the inside size of your cube. Add room for any wrap: about 5 mm for a tight fit, or 20 mm when you use paper or bubble wrap.
Round items such as candles and plant pots are measured across the diameter. Mugs are measured with the handle included, since the handle sets the width. If you pack two items side by side, measure them together on the bench, not one at a time.
If your product is much taller than it is wide, a cube wastes space. A rectangular carton would cost less to post. Our guide on measuring a box the right way covers inside and outside sizes in detail.
Corrugated or folding board for a cube?
The choice depends on where the cube goes next. If it travels by courier on its own, use corrugated board. If it sits inside an outer carton or on a shop shelf, folding board is usually enough.
For tall cubes over about 250 mm, choose C flute at least. The taller the walls, the more they need a thicker board to stay square when stacked.
| Board | Wall | Best use for a cube |
|---|---|---|
| E flute single wall | About 1.5 mm | Small printed cubes that still need to post |
| B flute single wall | About 3 mm | Mugs, jars and candles sent alone |
| C flute single wall | About 4 mm | Larger cubes of 250 mm and up |
| BC double wall | About 7 mm | Heavy cubes or ones stacked low in a pile |
| Kraft or white folding board | Card | Retail cubes, blind boxes, gift sets |
Can a cube box be printed on every side?
Yes. A cube gives you six equal panels, so artwork can wrap round the box without awkward narrow sides. Many toy and gift brands use this to run one picture across four faces.
We print one colour, two colour or full colour CMYK, outside and inside. On cubes, the popular finishes are matte lamination with spot UV on a logo, or foil stamping on plain kraft. Gloss lamination and embossing are also on offer.
Our designers set your artwork on the flat template at no charge. They check that panels line up across the folds, which matters more on a cube than on most boxes.
Why do brands like square boxes on the shelf?
A row of cubes reads as a set. Number them, colour code them, or print one letter per box, and buyers want the whole run. That is why blind box toys and tea samplers so often come in cubes.
A cube also photographs well from any angle, which helps on product listings.
Cubes also turn on any face. Staff can stock them without worrying which side is the front, as long as every side carries the brand. Our printed and retail box range has more shelf-ready styles if a cube is not quite right.
How should I pack a cube box?
Corners are where cubes have spare room, because round items leave gaps there. Fill them and the box behaves like a solid block in transit.
For blind box cubes in folding board, a small card insert holds the toy in the middle. It also stops the contents rattling, which buyers can hear before they open the box.
- Fold the base and tape along the centre seam, or tuck the base flap on folding board.
- Put a layer of crinkle paper or a card pad in the bottom.
- Stand the item upright in the centre of the cube.
- Fill the four corners so the product cannot shift sideways.
- Close the top and tape across the seam, then label one face only.
What goes wrong when ordering cube boxes?
The usual mistake is giving outside sizes. Board thickness then takes space from the inside, and a mug that should fit sits proud of the flaps.
Another is choosing a cube for a long, thin item because it looks smart. The empty space adds void fill and postage. A third is picking folding board for a cube that travels alone. It looks fine on the bench but crushes in a sorting depot. If in doubt, read our notes on single wall versus double wall board.
Last, check the print orientation on the proof. On a cube, it is easy to set a logo sideways on one face without noticing until the boxes are folded.
How long do cube boxes take?
We send a free digital proof first and nothing prints until you approve it. Production then runs 4 to 6 business days from that approval.
Once packed, the cubes travel by tracked delivery in 2 to 3 business days. Shipping costs nothing to any address in the UK. The boxes come flat and banded, ready to fold.

Cube Cardboard Boxes: questions
12 answersDo all sides of a cube box have to match?
Yes, that is what makes it a cube. If you need one side longer, we make a rectangular box instead at the same price structure.
Can I order a cube box in inches?
Yes. Give us the inside size in mm, cm or inches and we work from that.
What is the smallest cube box you make?
We make cubes to the size you need, including small blind box sizes of around 75 mm. Tell us the item and we will confirm it on the quote.
Are cube boxes strong enough to post a mug?
A single mug posts well in a B flute corrugated cube with wrap round it. For a set of mugs, ask about BC double wall.
Can I have different artwork on each face?
Yes. Each of the six panels can carry its own design, and our designers will place it on the template for you.
Do folding board cubes need tape?
No. They close with tuck flaps at the top and base. Corrugated slotted cubes are sealed with packing tape.
Can you add a divider grid inside a cube?
Yes. Corrugated cross dividers can split a cube into four or more cells for jars or bottles.
Will I see a proof before printing?
Yes. You get a free digital proof and we wait for your approval before anything is printed.
Can I order plain kraft cubes with no print?
Yes. Plain kraft corrugated cubes are a common order, and many sellers add a printed label later.
Do cube boxes stack well?
They do, because each layer has the same square footprint. Use double wall for the bottom of a tall stack.
Where in the UK can you deliver cube boxes?
Anywhere in the UK. Cubes ship free by tracked delivery, usually within 2 to 3 business days.
Can I print inside a cube box?
Yes. Inside print is available in one colour, two colour or full colour, and is popular on gift and toy cubes.
