Quick answer
What are double sided printed mailers?
Double sided printed mailers are corrugated mailer boxes printed on both faces of the board, so the inside is branded as well as the outside. The two sides can use different colours, patterns or messages. They are usually made in E flute so the print stays crisp.

What makes a mailer double sided?
A standard printed mailer carries ink on the outer face of the board only. A double sided mailer is printed on the inner face too, so the walls, base and lid underside are all branded.
Our photos show how different the two sides can be. A yellow box has a solid colour inside and a printed card under the lid. A pale purple and coral pair show a swirl pattern inside, with a small outline logo outside. A kraft box carries a white pattern on the outside and a deep green inside.
It is the same folding style as our standard custom mailer boxes, with a second print pass added.
Why print the inside as well?
The outside of a mailer travels through sorting centres and vans. It needs to carry a label, survive handling and look tidy on a doorstep.
The inside is only seen by your customer. That makes it the place for a thank-you note, care steps, a discount code or a bold colour that would be too loud outside. Many brands keep the outside simple and save the strong design for the inside. It also helps when customers film or photograph their parcels, as the open box is what appears on screen.
Inside print also lasts. Boxes that are kept for storage show the inside every time they are opened, long after the address label has been peeled off.
How should I split the artwork between two sides?
Treat the inside lid as the headline. It is the largest panel seen in one view, and it faces the customer as the box opens.
- Outside: logo, website, a calm pattern or a single brand colour
- Inside lid: the main message, a greeting or how-to steps
- Inside walls: a repeat pattern or solid colour flood
- Inside base: a small surprise line, seen once the product is lifted out
- Front flap: a short line that shows when the box is first opened
Which board takes print best on both sides?
Board colour shapes how each side looks. You can ask for white on both faces, kraft on both, or white outside with kraft inside, and we confirm the build on your quote.
If your inside design is mostly a solid flood, the board colour underneath matters less. If it is a fine line pattern on bare board, as on the kraft box in our photos, the board colour becomes part of the design.
| Board | Thickness | How print looks |
|---|---|---|
| White E flute | About 1.5 mm | Bright, true colours on both sides |
| Kraft E flute | About 1.5 mm | Warm, softer colours; white ink stands out |
| White B flute | About 3 mm | Good colour with thicker walls for weight |
| Kraft B flute | About 3 mm | Natural look for heavier products |
Do double sided mailers cost more?
Yes, a little, because the board goes through a second print pass. The extra depends on how much ink coverage you use and how many colours.
There are ways to keep it down. A one colour inside, such as a single flood or a line pattern, costs less than full colour photography. Keeping the outside to kraft with one colour, and putting full colour inside, is a popular balance. Pricing starts from £0.25 per unit across our mailers, and your quote shows the cost of each option so you can compare.
Order size matters too. The set-up for a second side is spread across every box, so the extra per box falls as the quantity rises.
How do I prepare artwork for both sides?
We send two dielines with your quote: one for the outside and one for the inside. Each shows the panels, folds, cuts and bleed.
Remember that the inside dieline is a mirror of the outside. The lid on the outside sheet sits in the same place as the lid on the inside sheet, but left and right are swapped. Our designers check this for free, and you can try ideas first in Design Your Box for mailers.
- Place your artwork on each dieline, keeping text inside the safe area.
- Extend backgrounds to the bleed line on every edge.
- Supply files as PDF, AI, SVG or high-resolution PNG or JPG.
- Check the free digital proof for both sides carefully.
- Approve, and production starts within the 4 to 6 business day window.
Which finishes work on a two-sided print?
The outside can take matte or gloss lamination, spot UV, foil stamping or embossing. Lamination also helps the outside resist scuffs in transit.
Inside, most brands leave the print uncoated or matte, because a softer finish feels right in the hand. Foil on the inside lid is possible and looks striking, but keep it to a logo or short line. Embossing presses through the board, so a raised logo outside will show as a dip inside; plan the artwork around it.
Common mistakes with double sided printing
We flag all of these on the proof, but it saves time to check before you send files.
One more: check the box closed as well as open. A design that looks great flat can line up oddly once the walls fold over.
- Forgetting that the inside dieline is mirrored
- Running small text across a fold, where it cracks or hides
- Using a pale inside colour on kraft board, where it fades into the brown
- Placing the key message on a dust flap that folds out of view
- Putting embossing on the outside directly behind important inside text
How do double sided mailers fit with other packaging?
A printed inside often means you need less else. Some brands drop tissue paper and loose leaflets, because the message is on the box itself.
Others go further and add printed tape, a card insert or paper shred in a matching colour. If you want branded tape to seal the outside, see our custom printed packing tape so the parcel matches from the first glance.
Keep colours consistent across each item. A brand colour printed on board, tape and card can look slightly different on each, so ask for advice on matching.

Double Sided Printed Mailers: questions
12 answersWhat is a double sided printed mailer?
It is a mailer box printed on both the outside and the inside faces of the board. Each side can have its own design.
Can the inside and outside use different colours?
Yes. Each side is printed separately, so you can use full colour outside and one colour inside, or the other way round.
Does inside print show through to the outside?
No. Corrugated board is opaque, so each side keeps its own design.
Is double sided print much more expensive?
It adds a second print pass, so it costs more than one side. A simple one colour inside keeps the extra small.
Which board gives the brightest print?
White E flute at about 1.5 mm gives the brightest, truest colours on both faces.
Can I print on kraft inside and out?
Yes. Kraft gives a warmer look. Dark inks and white ink stand out best on brown board.
Do you supply dielines?
Yes. We send an outside and an inside dieline with your quote, marked with folds, cuts and bleed.
Can I add foil to the inside?
Yes, foil stamping is possible inside. It works best on a logo or a short line on the lid.
Does embossing affect the inside print?
Yes. A raised area outside shows as a shallow dip inside, so plan inside text away from it.
Can you help with the design?
Our designers give free layout help for both sides, and every order gets a free digital proof.
What if the colours on my boxes are wrong?
Check the proof first, as that is what we print to. If boxes arrive misprinted, damaged or faulty, send photos within 10 days and we will reprint or refund.
How long does an order take?
Two-sided mailers are made in 4 to 6 business days once you sign off the proof. Tracked shipping to your door follows in 2 to 3 business days.
