This range covers the boxes most people picture when they say cardboard box. Some are corrugated board for posting and storing. Others are folding board or grey board for gifts, shelves and keepsakes.
Every style is made to order. You send the inside size, the board and the print, and we quote it in writing. Unit prices begin at £0.25 and move with size, board and quantity.
The range sits between our postal mailers and our printed retail cartons. It is where you start when the job is simply a good box at the right size.
If you need a box with no print at all, start with our plain cardboard boxes made to size. They are the simplest and quickest to specify.
Which cardboard box suits which job?
The table compares every style in the range. Use the middle column to match a box to what you sell or store, then open that page for sizes and board options.

Who orders cardboard boxes from this range?
Most orders come from small firms, makers and shops that need a box sized to their own goods. A box that fits closely uses less void fill and looks tidier when the customer opens it.
We also see offices ordering records boxes, removal firms ordering heavy cartons, and gift brands ordering lidded styles. Our archive boxes for office records are a common repeat order for accountants and solicitors.
Repeat orders are easy because we keep your size, board and artwork on file. You only need to tell us the new quantity.
- Online sellers who post goods every day
- Craft makers selling candles, soap and jewellery
- Bakeries and cafés that need carry-out boxes
- Offices clearing files into long-term storage
- Retailers who want a branded gift box for the counter
- Households and removal teams packing for a move
How do I choose a cardboard box size?
Measure the item or the packed bundle first. Add a small allowance for wrapping or inserts, usually 5 to 10 mm on each side for soft goods and more for fragile ones.
Always quote inside sizes in the order length, width, height. Height is the side that runs from the opening to the base. If a lid or flap sits on the long side, say so on the order and we will check it on the proof.
Small items sit best in a box built close to them. For tiny goods, our small cardboard boxes for compact products page lists sizes that keep postage low.
Single wall, double wall or folding board?
Single wall corrugated board suits most parcels. E flute, at roughly 1.5 mm, folds into crisp small boxes. B flute is about 3 mm, and C flute is about 4 mm with more cushioning.
Double wall BC board is about 7 mm thick. Choose it for heavy loads, rough handling or stacking in a stockroom. Our large cardboard boxes for bulky goods are often made in BC.
Kraft or white folding board is thinner and smoother. It suits retail and gift styles where the box sits on a shelf rather than travelling alone in a van.
Not sure? Tell us the weight of a packed box and how it will travel. Your quote will then name the board we would use.
| Board | Thickness | Typical use in this range |
|---|---|---|
| E flute single wall | About 1.5 mm | Small, drawer and cube boxes |
| B flute single wall | About 3 mm | Lidded and everyday plain boxes |
| C flute single wall | About 4 mm | Storage boxes and medium cartons |
| BC double wall | About 7 mm | Large, heavy and stacked boxes |
| Folding board | Thin card | Gift, handle and cylinder styles |
Can cardboard boxes be printed with my logo?
Yes. Print runs from a single ink up to full CMYK, or you can leave the board bare. We print outside, inside or both.
A one colour logo on brown kraft is the lowest cost way to brand a box. Full colour suits photographs, patterns and solid fills. Our black cardboard boxes with printed finishes show how a dark base takes foil and spot UV.
For the surface, you can leave bare kraft or add a matte or gloss film, spot UV, foil or an embossed logo. A free digital proof comes to you before any printing starts, and our designers will help with the layout at no charge.
Which styles open and close differently?
Closure changes how a box is packed and how it feels to open. A box that needs tape suits storage and bulk dispatch. A box with a lid or drawer suits gifts that the customer will keep.
For gift sets and keepsakes, look at our cardboard boxes with lids for gifts. The lid lifts away cleanly and the base can be reused.
- Flaps that meet in the middle and close with tape
- Separate lid that sits over a base
- Drawer tray that slides out of a sleeve
- Fold-up handle for carrying by hand
- Tube body with a push-on lid
Packing tips for cardboard boxes
Load the weightiest piece first and pack out the gaps until nothing moves. Movement inside the box causes more damage than a knock from outside.
Use tape across the centre seam and along both edges on the base of a taped box. Leave the contents level with the top. A bulging lid weakens the corners and lets moisture in.
For storage, stack the same size boxes together and keep the heaviest on the bottom row. Our cardboard storage boxes for stockrooms have a plain panel for a written label.
Label the outside of storage boxes on two sides. When boxes are stacked against a wall, one label is usually hidden.
Common mistakes when ordering cardboard boxes
Sending outside measurements is the error we see most. We make to inside sizes, so the outside will be larger by the board thickness on each side. With BC double wall that difference is about 14 mm per dimension.
Another mistake is choosing heavy board for light goods. Thick board adds weight and can push a parcel into a higher postage band. Our flat cardboard boxes for slim items are a good example of keeping height and weight down.
Finally, check that artwork has a bleed and that text stays clear of folds. The proof will show this, so read it carefully before you approve.
Last of all, think about how many you really need. Ordering for three months of sales is usually cheaper per box than ordering for three weeks, as long as you have dry space to keep them flat.
How do I order boxes from this range?
An order takes a few minutes. Fill in the short form at the head of this page, or Design Your Box to place your logo on a photo first. Our kraft drawer boxes for small gifts page has its own order form if you already know the style.
- Pick a box style from the table above.
- Measure the inside length, width and height you need.
- Choose the board and the print you want.
- Upload artwork, or let our designers lay it out for free.
- Check and approve the free digital proof.
- Production takes 4–6 business days after approval.
- Tracked delivery follows in 2–3 business days.
What affects the price of a cardboard box?
Four things set the unit price: size, board, print and quantity. A bigger box uses more board, and double wall uses more than single wall.
Print adds cost by the number of colours and by whether you print one side or both. Finishes such as foil and embossing need their own tooling, so they add more on short runs.
Quantity has the biggest effect. Set-up costs are spread across the run, so the price per box falls as the order grows. Ask for two or three quantities on one quote to compare.
- Box size and shape
- Board type and wall
- Number of print colours
- Inside print as well as outside
- Special finishes
- Order quantity
Round, cube and cylinder shapes
Not every product suits a rectangle. Round boxes are made to a diameter and height, and suit hats, flowers and candles. Cube boxes keep all three sides equal, which helps mugs and plants sit upright.
Cylinder boxes have a tube body and a fitted lid. They suit loose tea, rolled prints and cosmetics. See our cardboard cylinder boxes for tea and candles for typical diameters.
These shapes cost a little more to make than a plain carton because the board is cut and wrapped differently. Your written quote will show the exact unit price.
Cardboard Boxes: questions
12 answersAre all cardboard boxes in this range made to order?
Yes. Every style is cut to the inside size you give us. We do not sell from stock sizes.
What is the lowest price for a cardboard box?
From £0.25 per unit. Dimensions, board grade, ink and run length all move that figure, and the exact unit price is set out on your written quote.
Can I order cardboard boxes with no printing?
Yes. Plain brown kraft is available on every style. Plain boxes are the quickest to specify because there is no artwork to check.
How long do cardboard boxes take to arrive?
Allow 4–6 business days on the press and cutter once your proof is approved, plus 2–3 business days for the tracked van.
Is delivery free?
Yes. Shipping costs nothing to a UK address, wherever it is. Each shipment is tracked from our door to yours.
Which board should I choose for heavy items?
Most heavy orders go in BC double wall, which measures roughly 7 mm, especially if the boxes will be stacked. Single wall C flute suits medium weights.
How is grey board different from corrugated?
Grey board is a dense, solid board used for stiff gift and keepsake boxes. Corrugated board has a fluted layer inside that cushions goods in transit.
Can I print the inside of a cardboard box?
Yes. Inside print is available on its own or alongside outside print. It is popular on lidded, drawer and gift styles.
Do you supply cardboard boxes in black?
Yes. Black boxes are printed in black over kraft or white board, and they take foil stamping and spot UV well.
What if my boxes arrive damaged or misprinted?
Photograph the problem and email it to us inside 10 days. Those boxes are then reprinted, or we refund them.
Can I give sizes in inches?
Yes. Inches, centimetres and millimetres are all fine, and the proof shows the sizes we will cut to.
Will someone help me with the box layout?
Yes. A designer can tidy or build the layout for free, and printing waits until the proof has your approval.
